‘Celebration of talent and imaginative dances’ – Recap of the 91ÆÞÓÑ Dance Final 2023
The finals of the 91ÆÞÓÑ Dance Competition 2023 showcased variety and talent from students in KS2 right up to KS4/5, making for an astonishing day in Berkshire on the 2 November 2023.
This was the first year the 91ÆÞÓÑ Dance Competition welcomed an online qualification round followed by a final held at Reddam House, Berkshire. This allowed more schools and students to take part.
The day kicked off on a triumphant note with the KS2 standout, St Michaels School, awarded first place in the group category for their impeccably choreographed dance performance titled 'Changes'. Following this impressive start, Isla from Littlegarth School secured first place in the solo KS2 category with her exceptionally unique dance inspired by the film 'Birdbox'.
Moving on to the KS3 division, New Hall School secured the top spot for groups with their imaginative dance influenced by the popular Christmas classic 'Polar Express'. In the solo category, Evie from MEPA Academy showcased an unbelievably controlled Street-dance titled 'Back Again.'
Concluding the day were KS4/5. New Hall School once again stole the show with their senior group earning first place with their synchronized performance of 'Impossible'. Finally, not to be overshadowed, the KS4/5 solo champion was Tia from Reddam House Berkshire for her powerfully emotional dance titled 'Surrender'.
The day proved to be a real culmination of talent and imaginative performances.
It was a pleasure to witness the wide range of dances selected from the classics like Ballet, Jazz and Tap to Street Dance, Modern and Contemporary. We saw dance interpretations using audio snippets from popular films, Gangsta Grannies taking to the stage, incredible body control moments and sheer creativity throughout.
A landmark collaboration between two of the world’s leading contemporary dance organisations, Rambert School and Rambert dance company, Rambert Grades offers students of all abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to develop lifelong skills and provides an empowering toolkit for teachers.
